Come to my Hood
Dear readers,
hello! I want to start with this Surf Excel ad from across the border.
Eid Mubarak!
I took most of this week off and came to Pune and though I really loved my time here, I couldn’t deal with me not doing anything productive. I think I feel good when I am of use and this book that I have been reading has been telling me why I feel that need.
I also want to recommend this documentary on Frida Kahlo on Amazon Prime, using her pictures, paintings and diary entries.
I have many things to share about emotional breakthroughs, community dining, paid work, etc but I think I will keep that for my next newsletter. I am asking you to promote this #ArtWithIndu I am doing tomorrow, in my neighbourhood.
We are doing this because as biologist, Michael E. Soulé said, “Though others might avoid the word, I insist that we talk about ‘love’ in conservation, because we only protect what we love. The reason we act when something threatens our family or our neighbourhood is because we love these people and places. Maybe it takes a tangible threat to our home environment to make us realise that we really do love the Earth.”
Here’s what we will make:
Or a book in a matchbox
Also, next weekend, we’ll be doing this:
Indian men on dating apps — our ultimate muse: On 21st and 22nd April, I will be leading a two day workshop where we will turn our dating app experiences into comics, zines, poetry and more. Come share and find a community of people with similar and varied experiences, learn from each other and turn your heartbreak and tender moments, sex advice into comics and more. This will be 2 hours on each day and in the afternoon and will be at Rs 1500 for folks in India. For folks abroad it will be 25 dollars. You will get some reading material and hopefully what we produce can become reading material for others, hopefully in a form of a book. If you want to sign up already, email me at indu14@gmail.com. Like Maya Angelou said, " There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.’ So come and don’t let the story die inside of you!
Folks have started to sign up and so can you.
Have a good weekend.
