A few links
Dear reader,
Hello! I have so many things I want to share - conversations from Delhi, realisations I have had about leading this life and snapshots from Tirunelveli but I have been very busy, so I am going to share some things I have been consuming. Mostly interviews I have watched recently.
1. I’ll start with Tirunelveli, as I was travelling there I wanted to know about the caste-based violence in Southern Tamil Nadu and was reading up and while I was there,
I watched Justice Chadru talk about the casteism in TN schools. Justice Chandru committee was formed by the Tamil Nadu government in August 2023 after two Dalit children in Nanguneri – 17-year-old Chinnadurai and his 13-year-old sister – were attacked by six classmates of Chinnadurai, who belonged to a dominant caste group. The committee submitted its 600-page report to the Tamil Nadu Government on June 18, 2024. The committee found casteism entrenched in classrooms and has given several recommendations.
While I was in Tirunelveli and in class, the caste markers were not visible to my foreign eye but what was visible that how smaller in stature were the students studying in the state board school compared to the ones in the CBSE and IB schools. It reminded me of a conversation I had with a cab driver in Delhi about how the poor children and their access to protein. (Hopefully, I will be able to illustrated this conversation soon).
While in Tirunelveli, we went to Pattamadai to look at the lovely mats they make with korai grass.
I am yet to finish watching this very insightful interview with author and scholar Hilal Ahmed who tries to reimagine the space for minorities, especially Muslims, in the ‘new India’.

Also watch, Neha Dixit talking about the struggles of Delhi’s migrant women and about her new book.
Also before I end, if you watch Malayalam films, you must watch this interview of Parvathy Thiruvothu. if you are hooked watched the longer interview, you will not be disappointed.
More soon.
